How Love INC Works

Love INC serves as a type of "church secretary" for a relational network of many local churches; our primary role is coordination.

We believe it is the church's mandate to care for the poor; we are simply working to coordinate that effort. Here is how our process works:

 

  1. An individual calls a local church or churches seeking assistance.
     
  2. The church operator or secretary refers the caller to the Love INC clearinghouse:
    573-256-7662.  The caller should select option 1.
     
  3. The caller indicates their need, usually cash, and is informed of the process by which Love INC resources the need. This process includes an in-depth intake interview to determine legitimacy and cause of the need.

    Note: At this point many callers, seeking only cash assistance, opt out of the process. There is a strong existing paradigm of habitual use of benevolence without individual responsibility. When the availability of financial assistance becomes known, many immediately (within hours) flock to the source, creating a debilitating cycle of dependence. The intake process and methods and kinds of assistance Love INC provides aim at mitigating these abuses.
     
  4. The callers stated situation and needs are verified by follow-up calls to landlords, utility providers, places of employment, etc. and evaluated for legitimacy.
     
  5. The Love INC program director determines resources available for the indicated need/s. These resources include: social service agencies, local church programs or individuals, Love INC education and support programs, furniture and occasionally financial support.
     
  6. The caller or client is directed to the church or program that fits their needs.
     
  7. Love INC follows up on progress and fulfillment of need.
